I guess some might suggest my enthusiasm for all things Lakeland could be said to cloud my judgement. After an ascent of Hugill Fell (Reston Scar) with the AW Society and the unfurling of Thwaites Wainwright flags at the summit, some could suggest us AW types were being bribed.
However, what horror, when I realised that after lugging a bottle of this fine ale to the summit I found I was without bottle opener! On return home, however, with the heat of a long day at work my taste buds were ready to be quenched by a cool flowing draught of northern ale. The taste of the 'Wainwright Ale' is typically Thwaites with a good flavour of hops, sweetness and that distinctive head. The golden colour of the ale gives it a distinctive look and the taste I enjoyed. After a long day at work or on the fells I can suggest that a glass of this nectar will slip down well. Harking from the home town of our fellwalking protagonist too, I recommend savouring it over a discussion of your latest felltop exploits and if you're very lucky you might even find it on draught - now there's a challenge! Details Wainwright Golden Ale is available from Waitrose, Booths and other good retailers. 500ml bottles at 4.1% abv Our rating: [4.5 / 5]

"I love the Lake District. Went for first time 20 months ago. OFC website is the best thing I've found, along with all the members' sites. My kids at school log on every morning as well." Sue Sullivan
