Photo of the Wainwright Walks DVDHaving watched this series on television  I thought it was a pertinent decision to buy the DVD when it became available.  To be honest, when I first sat down to watch on TV I thought it would be a new series with the usual celebrity walkers wheeled out to sing out the same old praises for AW.  However, although each programme started with such interviews with the likes of Chris Jesty and Eric Robson, the focus of each programme was certainly the mountains.   I think the aerial photography was excellent.  To be honest, I think that there could've been more of this.  To many of us, the fells are very familiar from the ground, but viewed from the air you enter a whole new dimension.  I think there's an interesting DVD yet to be produced with its view point from the wings of angels!

Photo of Julia BradburyJulia Bradbury was the series presenter and I guess AW himself would've been pleased to see such a fine lass announcing the fells to the assembled masses.   She was perhaps not the most obvious person to present such a programme, being  previously seen on Watchdog, Wish You Were Here and Top Gear. However, Julia brought a fresh perspective to the walks and as she trudged up each fell (followed of course by a film crew) she did a good job to keep the interest by dipping into the guides and allowing momentary contemplations.   There are four walks in the series including Haystacks, Sharp Edge, Castle Crag and Scafell Pike.

Also featured on the disc is the documentary about Wainwright, The Man Who Loved the Lakes.  If you are very quick you can even catch a flashing glimpse of the home of one of our very own club members!

Something which people will not have if they recorded the programmes at home are the special features on the disc including an AW biography, picture galleries and scene indexing.  All-in-all this is really a must have purchase for the AW afficiendo and quite honestly for anyone interested in Lakeland it is a good buy.
