Frances Lawrie The gear I carry is probably over the top but it's what I feel happy with. I use a Karrimor 45 Litre sack, though it's seen better days, Skye has torn some of the bottom out.Gloves, 2 pairs of liners, 1 fleecy, 1 pair Gore-Tex over Gloves & 1 pair wind stoppers. In the winter I carry big heavy Outdoors Design waterproof mitts with inners and if really cold but dry will take down gloves. If snowy but dry I have a pair of waterproof gloves with liners, not that waterproof and cannot cope with wet conditions but great when walking in the snow as they are waterproof enough to keep your hands dry when you place them in the snow (fall). Hat, Fleecy Low Alpine & Waterproof cap with fleece liner. Also carry a fleecy buff in the winter. In summer change the cap for a Paramo cap and a light buff. Tops, Paramo Fleece and in winter a gilet, again if it's cold and dry and I'm going into a remote area then I take a down jacket. Supplementary Kit - Orange plastic survival bag and in the winter, or if going remote, a Bivvy Shelter. If going to say, the Cairngorms in the winter I will also carry a Blizzard Bag, (it's a sleeping bag vacuumed down to a small brick size). I have a small bag with spare batteries, small head torch and a larger one for the winter. Spare compass, string (I found a dog once!), whistle, knife, silver survival bag, tissues, hand wash and a First Aid kit. Waterproof trousers, though in cold or winter I wear Paramo Cascade trousers so do not carry waterproofs. Usual, personal things, glasses (to see map!), lip salve, sun glasses, goggles in winter, thermal mat and sheet of Gore Tex for sitting on. I also carry a compass and GPS in my side pockets. I know a lot of the magazines are going for lighter gear and lighter loads but I do like to stay dry and warm.
