Ten OFC members and four dogs met up at the tearooms in Muker for a civilised cuppa in the open air before heading off towards Keld through the wild flower meadows which Swaledale is reknown for. |

Like many an OFC member living in the south of the country, I can't wait to get my first sight of the fells on every trip back to the promised land. For me, the magical point is usually the crest of the A591 just before Windermere, when you get that view over the lake to Claife Heights beyond. |

My job on day 2 of Helmut's big walk (last Thursday) was to navigate him from St Johns in the Vale Church to the top of Bleaberry Fell. We first took a stroll, without sacs, to Tewet Tarn and up the minor peak of Low Rigg. Then back to the church for a look inside and then it was on with Helmut's big pack (he was camping from thereon) and up the short, steep climb to High Rigg summit. Yet another good weather day with excellent views. |

Helmut started his big walk today in superb conditions. Roger and Ann climbed with him over Ullock Pike from near the Ravenstone Hotel and parted company with him on Carlside summit. Helmut then climbed Skiddaw and descended to Skiddaw Little Man and Lonscale Fell and then headed down the gully between Lonscale Fell and Burnt Horse crags. |

For the past few years, along with friends, I have spent an interesting week down at Hay-on-Wye for the annual Guardian sponsored literature festival. This short article and video excerpt revisits the 2007 sojourn along with the excellent walk taken on the Black Mountain. |

The drive to the Lake District from the wide green valley of Airedale does not take long on a Friday evening and Josie and I soon found ourselves in Ambleside and the very short trip from there to Skelwith Bridge. |

In 1953 the BBC Books to Read service, announced, "This is surely a book that ought to be in every British Home." The book in question was 'The Ascent of Everest' by John Hunt. Fifty five years later the hero of the book has died and with it closes the final chapter in one of the greatest feats of human endeavour. Of course, along with Tenzing Norgay his illustrious climbing comrade, we are discussing the passing away of Edmund Hillary on 11th January this year. OFC member Dave Dimmock writes a short tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary following the recent announcement of the death of the pioneer. |

With the growth in the OFC membership it was felt that we really needed to have a more more formal get together. With the popularity of the Kirkstile as an informal Club 'hub' and the proximty of a local celebrity, the stage was set for the first OFC Inaugural Dinner. Please read on to find out more and to see and hear part 1 of some of Hunter's fantastic talk, predominantly about AW.... |

"Just had to say, thank you for such a grand few minutes. I am 67 now and my knees are past the challenge of such a climb (Tryfan article) but it was great doing it again online with you." Sheelagh Finlay
