Great Gable Remembrance Weekend 2007

Read more...The annual Great Gable Remembrance Service organised by the Fell & Rock Climbing Club was well represented by OFC members again this year.  With an early start at Honister, twelve members of the Club ascended for the short service through fog and drizzle before being treated to clearing skies, snow flurries and finally gorgeous vistas.  The whole day was again a fantastic experience and was made even more special by the fine company and generosity of friends.

 
OFC Peak District Weekend (October 2007)

Read more...The Peak District Weekend started on Saturday morning in the main Edale Car Park (close to the start of the Pennine Way). The weather was not perfect as low cloud dominated most of the day. However rain and drizzle held off until the crossing of the Kinder plateau.

Read more...Is Lakeland being damaged beyond control as its popularity grows and should the humble visitor be expected to help out financially for the damage to the environment that they cumulatively cause?  One footfall on the fells doesn't equal a new route but together a hundred thousand might produce a path.  Should any of us feel guilty about the inevitable destruction we all cause and should we contribute in some way to aid the long term sustainability of this potential World Heritage Site?

Read more...At the start of August 2001, Mr. Guy Newbold, Secretaryof the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team began to write up accounts onto the OFC message board from his week's experience in the glorious valley beneath the precipitous flanks of England's highest mountain.  What started off as Guy's own personal diary, turned into, for a few weeks at least, one of the more popular entries on the message board at the time.  In the next fifteen entries or so, the Wasdale Gazette is being reserialised on the new site for those who wish to revisit it and for others who have not been fortunate enough to read the daily life of a young man living and working in this remote corner of Lakeland.  Enjoy the series and come back for the next edition....
