The Guardian Hay Festival this year will run from the 22nd to 1st June and attracts people from all over the UK and abroad.  Set in a few acres of land on the western edge of Hay in Wales, the festival is a celebration of writing and culture in general.  With participants speaking on topics as wide ranging as Tim Smit talking on the future of the Eden Project in Cornwall to ex-President Jimmy Carter in conversation about global politics the festival is an interesting mix of old and modern set in the informal tented village with amazing tarpaulin clad lecture halls able to seat a few hundred at a time.

Last year there were many excellent talks such as a presentation called Craswall, Lives and Landscapes Under the Black Hill to more internationally famous appearances by people such as Petere Falk who famously played the TV detective, Colombo.  It was a great opportunity to buy books and get them signed in person by such greats as Leslie 'Ding Dong' Phillips, Roy Hattersley and others.  It's all very informal in its rural setting with interesting stalls and refreshments with the amphitheatre of the Black Hills rising to the south.  To see some of last year's personal excerpts then please watch the following two audio visual presentations.

If anyone is interested in walking with me I will be walking twice during the festival week on Wednesday 28th and Friday 30th May.  I anticipate walking on at least one occasion from the Gospel Pass to include Twympa and have considered driving west to include a route up Pen-y-Fan.  If anyone is interested in joining me or would like to help plan a day itinerary then please do get in touch.  If transport is also an issue I can easily accommodate six others comfortably in the car and don't mind picking people up at a mutually convenient location.  I can also be reached by text on 078 1111 4821.  Of course a serious day walk in high hills requires all suitable equipment and food and I cannot be held responsible for any person's wellbeing.  If you would like to see what the Black Hill is like then watch last year's outing of 19 miles:-

"On Saturday we met up with Ann and Roger Hiley, John Paterson and Terry Gargrave for a walk up High Rigg and on Monday we met Paul Harrison on Pike O'Stickle. It was a real pleasure meeting everybody and we enjoyed every minute." Dave Leslie
