Lost Sheep 7 - Poll Results
Vote results - click to enlarge
In an effort to bring some autonomy to the OFC we decided to use the poll function in order to find the supported charity for issue 7.  After nominations sent to Peter Burgess via e-mail the poll was run and Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team came out on top.  It was interesting to see how the poll could be used in such an interactive way and give rise to such a useful purpose.  Although not every charity proved entirely popular it would seem appropriate that the Calvert Trust be supported with issue 8 which will hopefully be published later in the autumn.

In the meantime, may I thank everyone who presented their nominations and for all those people who so enthusiastically voted for their 'favourite' charity presented in the poll.  This is only my own view, but it is worth bearing in mind that as a fellwalking club, it might be appropriate to help out smaller, outdoor related charities such as MRT.   I would appreciate any views on this either via the message board or to me directly at my usual e-mail address.

You may be interested to know that I have already e-mailed the secretary of DFMRT and I have already obtained a response.  Tracey Binks, team secretary, has already contacted me and stated,

"Your support for DFMRT is really generous and the OFC website looks amazing."

I look forward to be able to raise lots of money for this less well known team who provide an equally important role in the support of walkers and mountaineers who find themselves in trouble on the fells.

Members will also be happy to know that we have raised well over £600 for Kapellan and I am in the process of arranging a gathering at the Wainwright Shelter where a group of OFC members will be able to take a look around and present the monies raised.

4 Peaks Scuba Challenge
Read more... Driving along the A13 recently, I noticed familiar mountain names emblazened on the side of a car.  On return home I was keen to discover the amazing project being advertised by the vehicle and the equally incredible expedition being undertaken by a group of scuba divers in order to raise funds for Help for Heroes.  Find out more about this expedition from Shane Farnham and then why not consider their worthy cause in support of 'Help for Heroes'.

The continued good fortune of being in Cumbria along with good weather, continued again on this outing, as a few OFC again gathered in Coniston.  My intentions were not to stay in Coniston, but with £100 to give to Coniston MRT it seemed logical to overnight in Coniston for two nights in order to make the best of my time.  Robbie K had already contacted me to say he would join me and Lorraine also hinted at a walk out.  However, as with all things, matters can change but I was mighty pleased when those who said they would walk did so.  Along with myself, Robbie, Lorraine and even Steven P joined me on the long ascent of the Walna Scar Road from the village.  It really was a magic morning!
