Lost Sheep 7 - Poll Results
Vote results - click to enlarge
In an effort to bring some autonomy to the OFC we decided to use the poll function in order to find the supported charity for issue 7.  After nominations sent to Peter Burgess via e-mail the poll was run and Duddon & Furness Mountain Rescue Team came out on top.  It was interesting to see how the poll could be used in such an interactive way and give rise to such a useful purpose.  Although not every charity proved entirely popular it would seem appropriate that the Calvert Trust be supported with issue 8 which will hopefully be published later in the autumn.

In the meantime, may I thank everyone who presented their nominations and for all those people who so enthusiastically voted for their 'favourite' charity presented in the poll.  This is only my own view, but it is worth bearing in mind that as a fellwalking club, it might be appropriate to help out smaller, outdoor related charities such as MRT.   I would appreciate any views on this either via the message board or to me directly at my usual e-mail address.

You may be interested to know that I have already e-mailed the secretary of DFMRT and I have already obtained a response.  Tracey Binks, team secretary, has already contacted me and stated,

"Your support for DFMRT is really generous and the OFC website looks amazing."

I look forward to be able to raise lots of money for this less well known team who provide an equally important role in the support of walkers and mountaineers who find themselves in trouble on the fells.

Members will also be happy to know that we have raised well over £600 for Kapellan and I am in the process of arranging a gathering at the Wainwright Shelter where a group of OFC members will be able to take a look around and present the monies raised.

A tribute to Betty Wainwright
Read more...Sadly we hear the news that Betty Wainwright, beloved wife of Alfred Wainwright has passed away.  The news is very sad but we should be joyous in the fact that she saw the resurgence of her late husband's work before today.  In the last few years she has seen momentous activities with the republication of the Pictorial Guides and if possible an even greater interest in her husband's work.  She has witnessed the birth of the OFC, the inauguration of the Wainwright Society and the republication of the AW guides.

Happy 1st Birthday - OFC Website
Read more...The updated OFC website is a year old.  It doesn't seem two minutes since a band of merry fellwalkers took to southern slopes in order to launch the site from the summit of Ivinghoe Beacon.  Although some technical difficulty was encountered James Hoye remotely launched the site and as they say in all the greatest stories, 'The rest is history!'...
