This afternoon was grey and windy but quite mild. Ann Hiley, Jayne Hill, Jo and I had a short walk from the carpark near the Ennerdale outfall to the col above Anglers Crag, up to the pinnacles and then up via Revelin Crag to Crag Hill summit. The pinnacles were fascinating and we had a bit of an explore. When we reached Revelin Crag the ladies bypassed it up steep grass slopes to the west whilst Polly and I ascended a narrow scree gully - the only break in the cliffs. The gully above a steep scree fan was short (100ft?) and steep and at the top, quite slippery, so a "bridging" technique using the rock sides was useful. It reminded me of the top of Deep Gill on Scafell and would make a nice little training climb in proper winter conditions of snow and ice. We had lunch just below the summit cairn of Crag Fell out of the wind and then headed back down through the wood to Crag Farm as time was against us as far as doing the neighbouring fell of Grike was concerned. A grey day but an enjoyable afternoon in good company. Oak Cottage still has a supply of Christmas cake to fortify hungry visitors. "I love the Lake District. Went for first time 20 months ago. OFC website is the best thing I've found, along with all the members' sites. My kids at school log on every morning as well." Sue Sullivan
