An excellent day on Grisedale Pike Print

As others have said it was a beautiful blue sky day today.  Unfortunately I had things to see to in Keswick so I couldn't make a start on a walk until 11.30.  We drove to Revelin Moss carpark near the top of Whinlatter Pass and took the forest track which leads to the north ridge of Grisedale Pike and Hobcarton End.  I have captioned a couple of photgraphs giving a grid reference of a marker post and directions from there to find the narrow track leading out of the forest.

About 15 minutes in the forest and we broke out onto delightful heather moorland on a gentle gradient to Hobcarton End with great views over Whinlatter.  Then up the north ridge which joins the north east ridge a hundred yards or so from the summit.  There was a strong wind on the summit but a small outcrop gave shelter and it was very springlike out of the wind having lunch.

Then on to Hopegill Head with superb views all the way.  Thankfully there was very little ice on the slab and we were soon peering through the notch at the foot of the slab.  Over Ladyside Pike and down the wall for quarter of a mile to a fence.  Once over the stile we headed right, down the fellside to pick up a path skirting a young plantation.  We crossed Hobcarton Gill (it was only a yard wide) and then climbed over the wire fence (which had no stile despite being on an obvious path) and onto the forest road which led back to the car after 40 minutes.

A good day out - plenty of people on the summits but I was the only one to climb the north ridge as far as I could tell.
