Dow Crag and Walna Scar via Seathwaite Tarn Print

It is me - the missing fellwalker from Richard's account!

Six of us and three dogs had a good walk yesterday over ground which was largely new to me.  I have, of course covered the ground from Goat's Hawse to Walna Scar pass many times.  But the walk from the bottom of the Walna Scar track to Goat's Hawse via Seathwaite Tarn and Far Gill was new to me.  The tarn was interesting - it was originally a smaller tarn which has been greatly enlarged by the building of a dam.  It had been partially drained to allow work to be carried out on the outfall and the outer wall of the dam.

The climb from the reservoir up far Gill to Goat's Hawse, although pathless, was gentler and easier than I expected.  After our exploration of Dow Crag summit area we descended to Walna Scar and then walked the minor ridge over Walna Scar itself and White Maiden and White Pike before exploring the disused quarries below Walna Scar.  This area south of Walna Scar pass was also new to me.

The day was rounded off with a pint in the rather nice beer garden behind the pub at Seathwaite.  A good day out all in all.

"Just had to say, thank you for such a grand few minutes. I am 67 now and my knees are past the challenge of such a climb (Tryfan article) but it was great doing it again online with you." Sheelagh Finlay
