Martindale church, Bannerdale and Beda Fell Print

Today's walk was very different.  We parked in grey conditons at Martindale Church and bumped into David Hall (OFC member) who had just finished his walk having started at 06.30!  A wise move as the weather was set to get wetter for us.

David had mentioned that there were lots of deer about in the valley today and sure enough, we saw a herd of maybe 50 on the far side of Rampsgill Beck just short of Dale Head Farm.  The weather was now looking worse and it was starting to rain so we decided against climbing the Nab and opted to head up to Bedafell Knott above Bannerdale and back along Beda Fell to the memorial seat on Howstead Brow where a path led back down to Martindale Church.  This was a hive of activity as a treasure hunt was just ending with a Lord of the Rings theme.  The route had taken the competitors around the valley and on the fells and the final clues (and the ring) were in the churchyard!

A cream tea at Pooley Bridge rounded the day off in a civilised manner!
