The Beckton Flyover You might not think that East Ham could be the most visually stunning location, but after a heavy snow fall overnight even the worst is blessed by a white mantle of snow. A walk south to the A13 saw a slow stream of traffic attempting the hectic drive into London. As all buses had been cancelled and most trains and airports had been affected, many folk had chosen to stay at home or in some cases been instructed. It gave Tracy and I the chance to walk through the streets of a snow covered East End en route for the Beckton Alps. This spoil heap, remnant of the omce massive Beckton Gas Works, is the highest piece of terra firma in Newham. Tracy had not been there before, so it was a new Alpine ascent for her and all managed without ice axe and crampons!Fellrunning's images:
