High Beach Church After overnight snow, London awoke to some snow on 18th December 2009. After a pre-Christmas errand in Leyton, a drive with a friend up to Epping Forest saw a photo opportunity metamorphose into a full blown walk. With the snow on the ground and good boots on the feet, Steve and I set off into the winter wonderland of Epping Forest. High Beach G.C. After leaving the car at the King's Oak, we descended west off the ridge line, circumnavigated High Beach Golf Course and then ascended Rats' Lane to Holy Innocents Church at High Beach. From there, we took hot drinks and tasty, bacon sandwiches at the kiosk near Crossroads. Suitably refreshed we returned back to the car via the 'up and down' horse ride. High Beach It really was a lovely day to be in the forest, and whether it was the weather putting people off or late Christmas shopping, there were very few people out and about. Steve Button and I had a really magical day and one which we'll remember long. Today was one of those days when you realise how fortunate we are to live in the UK. We might not have the mightiest rivers, the tallest mountains nor the deepest canyons, but with a taste of winter you really can savour some tremendous countryside and all within 15 miles of central London! Get out there and savour what you've got - you'll be amazed at what you find! Parked up |
