Mark Richards With a new set of Fellrangers in production, Mark's itinerary took us to the North-Western fells in order to take field notes and photographs for his next imminent publication deadline. After locating his 'perfect' parking space at Gatesgarth, we embarked on what was to become one of the slowest walks either of us could remember. As a result of the fine weather, idyllic scenery coupled with photographs and company the round would eventually take nigh on 6 hours!
Via Ferrata Completers The ascent of Fleetwith was magnificent. The sunlight was not constant, but passing clouds kept dappling the ground with shadow interspersed with brightness. As we neared Star Crag a group who had just completed the Honister 'via ferrata' arrived to bag the summit. Mark and I crossed the quarry and headed for Moses' Trod before descending Grey Crag into Dubs where we witnessed the magnificent waters of the river pools which give their name to the basin there. We made our way back via the Warnscale Hut and the valley before arrival back at Gatesgarth. We had taken nearly 6 hours to traverse this route but had fulyl investigated the fell with many photo opportunities, pauses, investigations of geology and discussions along the way. It was truly a remarkable day and one I will remember for long years to come. I hope you enjoy this video presentation. The Ascent of Fleetwith Pike
The tELLtALK logo Fellwalk? Tell, Talk! Pinnacle Ridge is a Lakeland classic. It is a severe grade 3 scramble and should be undertaken with caution. There is a serious risk of personal injury or even death if a scrambler fell from the ridge at various points. The ridge is found on the northern flank of St. Sunday Crag overlooking the Grisedale valley and was first explored by Sheffield Mountaineering Club from their base at Ruthwaite Lodge. Pinnacle Ridge This Youtube offering has a few words of introduction in the form of short narration instead of just the usual images and music. I hope to expand this idea with some of the more popular and interesting Lakeland routes. If you like the subtle change in format and think it's a good idea then please do get in touch. I would be interested to hear about unfamiliar routes that could be added to the TELL TALK collection. If the idea takes offI will no doubt produce specific articles for each walk. Any feedback in the form of constructive criticism would be welcome. My contact details are to be found at the base of every page. The Ascent of St Sunday Crag via Pinnacle Ridge
