Photo in New Galloway ForestOn the annual Christmas get away in 2003 the base chosen was Kenmure on the shores of Loch Ken, New Galloway.  We had an ideal house in which to explore the surrounding area including the nearby Galloway Forest Park and the heights of Merrick.   With plenty of things to do in the immediate area we had an active week away including a visit to the nearby Kenmure Castle, the fabulous sunsets from the hills behind the house, some night walking in the forests and the first time I had experienced the new 'game' of geocaching.  I can recommend this area, more remote from the usual tourists spots but still worthwhile with some fabulous landscape.  We were relatively lucky with the weather and this Christmas even experienced some snow.  Even the rain on my ascent of Merrick had its benefits with the fabulous waterfall, Buchan Falls displaying its best.  Enjoy this offering complete with a few seconds narration from me in my orange hat!
