Grisedale After a recent mention of this route by both John Paterson and David Williams on the message board I thought I would try and find photographs of the route. Sadly, my records only take into account the ascent of Eagle Crag but in my younger days, when I used to stay at Patterdal for holidays, the ascent of Dollywagon and Nethermost 'straight up' were two of my favourite routes. As both John and David profess, these are two excellent ways and should keep you away from the crowds even on the busiest of Bank Holidays. I guess if you're unlucky you might meet at least three other people but they'll be pleasant guys being called Peter, David and John - all walking solitary I might add! After a resent e-mail you might also meet Andrew Leaney and David Hall, but chances are it'll be very quiet and there are plenty of boulders to hide behind if need be!
I think I may be able to claim the credit for this one! I've definitely mentioned somewhere the "Ruthwaite Horseshoe". Up into Nethermost Cove from the path to the north of Grisedale, East Ridge of Nethermost Pike and down the Tongue from Dollywagon to the shooting lodge. The bizarre thing is that both these routes are described as the best ascents of their respective summits by Wainwright, they fit together for a logical walk, yet they're almost unknown.
