Continuing my archive series, this set of walks on the 24th and 25th January 2004 takes in two of my favourite areas. With a Saturday scramble in the less frequented Longsleddale, Sunday sees an ascent of Helvellyn from Glenridding with Andrew Leaney. The conditions were good for January although the high level route on the Sunday encountered ice and snow which required care and the necessary equipment for such an escapade. |

Today I ventured for a cycle in the brilliant sunshine and warm weather to ascend the heady slopes of the Beckton Alps and to visit the dockside at London City Airport where I live in the London Borough of Newham. All-in-all a 14km cycle ride visiting some interesting parts of the urban landscape in the urban landscape of east London's docklands. |

In my last year working in the London Borough of Newham, a colleague asked if I would accompany him and a party of students on an A-Level visit to Iceland. Wanting a geomorphologist in tow, I jumped at the chance to engage in this hectic but altogether fascinating visit to one of the World's most amazing countries. |

In 2006 the Wainwright Society generated a new challenge following on from the success of The Great Lakeland Challenge. The idea followed on from the GLC and a number of people, including myself, showed considerable enthusiasm to partake. I hope you enjoy looking at the short audio-visual presentation depicting this unusual route away from the frequented ways. |

Fellwalking has a prerequisite - you need to walk on fells. However, I hope you will allow me this pleasure in showing you somewhere a little nearer home. Without a fell within 250 miles Tracy and I took the car up to Epping Forest and spent a pleasant few hours just wandering in the trees. There was scarcely a view in site and then it got me thinking, it's just like Crinkle Crags last week! Having said that, it was beautiful sunshine and it was fauna impeding the vistas rather than fog! |

An early morning drive north after a late night in a London theatre heralded a busy weekend in Cumbria. With a Saturday rendezvous with Bill Birkett and an afternoon in Staveley surrounding Wainwright Society matters, Sunday would provide a welcome break with a jaunt on the fells in the company of webmasters David Hall and Andrew Leaney. |
