An ascent of Lank Rigg from the Cold Fell road was the order of the day. In this remote western outpost of the Lakeland fells, solitude was the great feeling on this excursion with distant views of Lakeland giants and vistas across the seaboard. |

This afternoon was about as far removed from fellwalking as I could get. However, a visit to the Old Ford Locks on the River lee Navigation passed the time with the passage of pleasure boats through the lock. It was an experience to see this key operated lock in operation which is controlled by means of a push button control panel. |

The first walk of an annual holiday to Lakeland enabled an early ascent onto the Loweswater uplands east of Mockerkin. Starting from Fangs Brow near Lamplugh, I had set my sights on Blake and a fistful of summits surrounding this outpost of some of Lakeland's least well known fells. |

After a morning meet at Portinscale to discuss tactics Peter Burgess joined Mick Fox from the K-Fellfarers on an ascent of Tower Ridge on Eel Crag, Coledale. Mick has previously contributed to The Lost Sheep and this was the first time the two had walked together. Once a decision had been made to the day's itinerary the two drove onto Whinlatter Pass in order to find a suitable parking place to begin their assault. |

Thursday 14th october 2004 saw an ascent of a favourite route to the summit of Lakeland's most popular summit - Helvellyn. This is a less popular way involving a scramble up Eagle Crag in the glorious valley of Grisedale. In a drive to get urban youngsters to seek rural experience, the government started a new initiative directed via City Challenge in 2004.
