Tryfan and The Glyders Print

I had decided upon a new course of ascent today and with crampons at the ready opted for a route outlined in Pouchers Route 15 of the Glyders Group.  Named 'Ogwen Cottage and Tryfan Scree Gully, the line of the ascent is to ascend the grassy slopes until directly below the conspicuous scree gully that emerges to the left (north) of the summit of Tryfan.  Poucher describes the route with, "this route is arduous... difficult and with many loose boulders."  I have to say that with the snow and frost on this day, Poucher was not wrong!

The one great aspect to this route was the way it emerged very close to the summit rocks.  With my arrival came some sunshine and an opportunity for a photo with Adam and Eve!  I continued in cloudier weather up the flankof Glyder Fach, footprints revealing someone was ahead.  As the slope remitted two walkers were seen ahead.  I do enjoy walking alone, but Nathan Rundle and Hannah Dale gave a chance to have company on an otherwise quiet walk as the weather conditions on the mountains had undoubtedly put people off.  As we descended from the Devil's Kitchen to Llyn Idwal however, there were many people out for a walk in the snow in an attempt to lose some post Christmas calories!

I parted company with Nathan and Hannah and Ogwen Cottage and I walked back to the car, satisfied after a fantastic few hours on the mountains.  It really was a great day and one I hope many of you can repeat.  I hope you enjoy the images from this walk:
