Wainwright Society - AGM 2005 Print
Written by Peter Burgess

Drawing of cragAn early start from London led Peter to Windermere railway station for the start of a guided walk up Orrest Head.  A gloomy day was still mana for him after the burden of the urban skyline back home in Newham, east London.  The merry band of eighteen walkers and accompanying dogs soon reached the summit of AW's 'way in' and for many of the accomplished fellwalkers it was rather a walk in the park.  Sadly the views from the summit were not good and the classic panorama westwards was restricted by a heavy mist.  A Return to the start of the walk led to photo opportunities at the famous 'finger' sign and many people retired their different ways for a spot of lunch before the AGM at Kendal Town Hall.

The AGM was held in the appropriate setting where AW was Borough Treasurer.  The earlier gloomy day turned into a gem. Members met informally before the meeting, with some displaying their AW collectable and letters; Peter sold some of the OFC lost Sheep (and caught up with his old school teacher Dudley Green, author of Because it's there - the story of Mallory) and David maughan shared some copies of his book, On Foot From Coast to Coast.

The video below shows proceedings from the day:-

"Just had to say, thank you for such a grand few minutes. I am 67 now and my knees are past the challenge of such a climb (Tryfan article) but it was great doing it again online with you." Sheelagh Finlay
