Previous months

July brought some dry weather for walking, and many people were out and about. |
The beginning of the month brought excellent visibility and dryness. Sadly the latter part (coinciding with Roger & Ann's return from Down Under) turned cold and wet. |
May yielded some good sun and dry conditions with the North having the best weather on the Bank Holiday at the end of the month. |
A cold snap over a few days gave some great conditions, but the wind and rain made its usual appearance to put a damper on things. Andy Wallace continues to contribute his fine mountain offerings.... |
The Easter period brought down a fairly stable blast of cold air from the Arctic which gave fantastic winter conditions for several consecutive days and saw many OFC members taking advantage of some blue skies as well as snow and hail showers. Bring it on! |
Many people were beginning to wonder if they would get a true winter walk in during this season. However, with several out-of-Lakeland OFC members in Cumbria this month the likes of Jill Rowland and others were able to enjoy the fantastic weather enjoyed during much of the month. With walks as far apart as Hadrian's Wall, Blackstone Edge and Yr Wyddfa February presented another bumper package wrapped in some wonderful weather! Thanks again to all those who submitted. |
January proved a mixed bag in terms of the weather with Atlantic fronts creating some quite extreme weather with hill snow, rain and generally cloudy conditions. |
December brought us some snow and fine weather, as well as some horrid wet weather. |
November brought some welcome frosts and clear skies, but the snow chose Austria instead. |
It appears that autumn is making up for the lousy summer that we seemed to have had. Some excellent walks with glorious autumn colour. October saw another OFC organised walk, this time in the Peak District. The gales seemed to be lacking this year and although gloomy with some overcast sky, the autumn colours in some areas have been gorgeous. |
August was a hectic month with two organised OFC meets at Honister and Gaping Gill as well as the launch of the website on 23rd. The weather did give us a break with sunshine for blocks of several consecutive days. Let's hope that September offers us fresh, clear days with plenty of sun. The occasional early morning mist hanging in the valleys would no doubt be a welcome addition too. |
