Mellbreak's Secrets Denotes recently added content
Tuesday, 18 November 2008
Read more... Four fantastic days in The Lake District culminated with a flourish as I took a short but nontheless exhilirating excursion onto the heather clad slopes of Mellbreak.  However, what Roger (the local expert) and I did not realise was that this seemingly innocent fell, often overshadowed by its near and higher neighbours, has a more sinister side than many of us could imagine.  You might do well to read on, but shhhh!  Keep this one quiet......

Great Gable Remembrance Weekend 2008 Denotes recently added content
Tuesday, 11 November 2008
Read more... Today's outing was always going to be the reason why I was in Lakeland, but with four days in hand the annual Gable ascent was not just the main event.  Since establishing the OFC, I have been amazed by the wealth of generosity within the OFC.  I will always remember staying with Ed Ball at John Paterson's during the F&M crisis and from that day the kindness shown to me has been amazing.  I guess this is also true for many other members and perhaps to even a greater degree.  This weekend summed up the spirit of the OFC.

Lank Rigg - 'Western Solitude'
Monday, 01 September 2008
Read more... An ascent of Lank Rigg from the Cold Fell road was the order of the day.  In this remote western outpost of the Lakeland fells, solitude was the great feeling on this excursion with distant views of Lakeland giants and vistas across the seaboard.

Playing by Old Ford Locks
Monday, 25 August 2008
Read more... This afternoon was about as far removed from fellwalking as I could get.  However, a visit to the Old Ford Locks on the River lee Navigation passed the time with the passage of pleasure boats through the lock.  It was an experience to see this key operated lock in operation which is controlled by means of a push button control panel.

The Blake Seven
Sunday, 24 August 2008
Read more... The first walk of an annual holiday to Lakeland enabled an early ascent onto the Loweswater uplands east of Mockerkin.  Starting from Fangs Brow near Lamplugh, I had set my sights on Blake and a fistful of summits surrounding this outpost of some of Lakeland's least well known fells.

Two Take On Tower Ridge
Monday, 18 August 2008
Read more... After a morning meet at Portinscale to discuss tactics Peter Burgess joined Mick Fox from the K-Fellfarers on an ascent of Tower Ridge on Eel Crag, Coledale.  Mick has previously contributed to The Lost Sheep and this was the first time the two had walked together.  Once a decision had been made to the day's itinerary the two drove onto Whinlatter Pass in order to find a suitable parking place to begin their assault.

"I love the Lake District. Went for first time 20 months ago. OFC website is the best thing I've found, along with all the members' sites. My kids at school log on every morning as well." Sue Sullivan
