214 Wainwright Fells

Please forgive me if the navigation of this web site is all over the place right now. I have over 700 web pages to edit and it is taking some time, thanks for your patience.

About This Site

This site came about after having taken up walking in the English Lake District (see below).

I quickly came across three web sites (David Hall, Andrew Leaney and Sean McMahon) that I believe anyone thinking of walking the Lake District should look into, especially if you have never been before. Even if you have, please, please check out their pages. They have routes, pictures and advise, most of which could save your life. For many, many months Andrew's was set as my home page, I spent so much time on there, and I recently exchanged many emails with Sean asking his advice on such things as routes and parking.

Completing all 214 Fells

My mission to walk all 214 Wainwright Fells finally finished in May of 2008. (For more information on A.W. please have a look at the Society web site.)

Completing my 214th Fell

I should point out that although doing these 214 fells was really important to me, I do at times scream out loud at some of his omissions and additions. It's a personal thing, and I won't allow anyone to tell me that his guy has the final word concerning places to walk in the lakes. So far my biggest gripe is the omission of Ill Crag, (Nr Scafell Pike), which for me has one of the most amazing views any where in the lakes.

Concerning the Seven Fell Regions

I have been trying for a long time to come up with a way of showing all the walks I have done. I have the seven fell regions listed below, and when you hit the link for one you got a full list of every fell within that region. It is however an aweful lot of work, hours and hours, and each time I do a walk it mean's me having to edit sometimes 30 pages at a time. I am working on this off line, but appologies if some of the Fells do not have pages of their own yet. Thanks for your patience.

“Mountain climbing is an epitome of life. You start at the bottom; the weaklings and irresolute drop out on the way up. The determined reach the top. Life is like that"

All About Us

We are Chris, Odette, Kimberley, Kerenza and Charlotte.

About 2 years ago now my family and I were camping in the Lake District at Hawkshead. We spent each day driving around, setting off in a different direction each time. I had never driven these roads before and at times I found it quite a challenge, only because every now and again one of the four women in the car would scream out loud, WOW look at that... and of course expect me to look out the window at some mountain top that was disappearing into the clouds... On one such outing we ended up going through Langdale, at which point I was trying to figure out where the road was going to go.. all I could see in front of me was mountains... enter Wrynose Pass. When we got to what we thought was the top of this pass we parked up, and my eldest daughter and I started to walk up Pike Of Blisco. We didn't get very far, but we got far enough to see the valley below and for my wife and my other daughters to have become very small dots.Wrynose Pass The cattle grid where we parked is almost center of the picture. The real point though is that I got the bug. Standing there looking out over all that land, even though we were not on top, it bit me, it was like there was nothing else out there like it... I knew I had to do more. This little part of the Lakes is very special to me, so our latest walk up Lingmoor Fell is one I have looked forward to for quite a while.
