Cyclist in Wasdale Tonight, "Britain's Favourite View" on ITV1 christened the Lake District with this title. Sally Whittaker, more usually famed for her appearances on Coronation Street chose the view up Wast Water as her nomination for her favourite view. On a special live program, the British public then went on to choose Sally's view as their favourite over three other spectacularly beautiful views. I guess once more, linked with the Wainwright Walks and AW's Centenary, it might again just get a bit busy in Lakeland. I suggest giving Wasdale a wide berth over the next few weeks as the hoards who voted descend on the region! What do you think about such programmes? A good piece of publicity for Cumbrian tourism or a disaster as more tourists descend on an already pressured landscape? Have your say on the OFC club message board: Click here |

This five part series features an hour long documentary of the famous fell walker and guide writer, and four 30 minute programmes with Julia Bradbury walking in AW's footsteps along his favourite walks. Including Haystacks, Blencathra, Castle Crag and the highest English Munro of them all, this is a definite view for anyone interested in AW, the fells or both. |

Eric Robson was born in Southern Scotland and has lived for most of his life in Cumbria. For the latter part of his life he has owned a small farm near Wasdale and is most famous for his role as chairman of Gardeners' Question Time on BBC Radio 4. Over the last five years he has also chaired the Wainwright Society. This book examines his own life with quite amusing anecdotes of his experiences as a freelance broadcaster and documentary maker. |
