Well known climber and guide book author Al Phizacklea was airlifted to hospital following a slip on Wallowbarrow Crag on Sunday.

The alarm was raised by Al's companion and Duddon and Furness MRT launched a rescue operation involving more than 20 members.  Al had sustained a severe injury to his ankle as well as a number of head injuries, and was airlifted to West Cumberland Hospital for initial surgery on his ankle.
