Read more...As if the UK's farmers haven't had a hard enough time lately with FMD, a new killer has just arrived on these shores.  Bluetongue disease is particularly devasting and there is currently no vaccine for the Northern European strain.
 
Foot & Mouth Breaks Out in Egham

Read more...A new outbreak of Foot and Mouth has been confirmed in Egham, Surrey.  It would appear that the outbreak could be linked to the previous infection sourced back to Pirbright in August.  Let's hope that the government and farmers have the resolve to deal with this rural challenge.

Read more...What a surprise!  The Lake District has been voted as "Britain's Favourite View".  ITV1 has been hosting a series of programmes examining classic locations around Britain which might deserve the title.  From city scapes such as Edinburgh through to glorious views such as the Black Cuiillin of Skye, various celebrities have been championing their own cause.

Read more...After five years the Online Fellwalking Club, or OFC as it is known, now has a new website. In partnership James Hoye and Peter Burgess have gathered their collective skills to produce what is hoped will become the focus of the OFC along with the continued use of the message board. Not wanting to replace the current yahoo! message board, it is hoped that the new site will become a wealth of mountain interest for club membership and other visitors alike.

After the success of the launch at Honister on Saturday 11th August.  This second issue is a veritable celebration of Alfred Wainwright in this year of the centenary of his birth.  With the co-operation of Frances Lincoln, Millrace Books and 214fells.com we have produced a great club journal.  I do hope you can get your hands on a copy with all the money going to AW's personal charity, the Wainwright Shelter - Kapellan.
