The Lost Sheep issue 6 is now available. After the success of the launch at Honister on Saturday 11th August. This second issue is a veritable celebration of Alfred Wainwright in this year of the centenary of his birth. With the co-operation of Frances Lincoln, Millrace Books and 214fells.com we have produced a great club journal. I do hope you can get your hands on a copy with all the money going to AW's personal charity, the Wainwright Shelter - Kapellan. |

Following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease near Guildford in Surrey, all livestock movements have been halted in the UK.
Hopefully the containment measures put in place will mean that the horror of 2001 when vast swathes of the countryside were shutdown will not be repeated. |

‘Everest the Easy Way’ – that sounds good Andrew Leaney thought. The challenge was actually to do one ascent of Skiddaw, each ten ascents equalling one ascent of Everest. However, never one to take the easy option, Andrew thought that he could do ten ascents of Skiddaw on his own. |

| HAVE YOU SEEN? |
As a child growing up, I was always proud to be Lancastrian. On one of my earliest trips to Lakeland I remember stopping at the summit of Wrynose Pass in my friend's Volkswagon camper. I guess the year must've been about 1979, but it was the monolith of limestone near the summit of the motor road that caught my interest. Seeing LANCASHIRE emblazened across it was obvious to a child, but it was the L, W and R embedded in the grass that had me intrigued. "They stand for Lancashire, Cumberland and Westmorland", I was told by my friend's father. With hindsight, it's the first recollection I have of taking note of that word. I'd been to Kendal and of course driven through the old county of Westmorland on many an occasion, but this piece of limestone at the summit of the infamous pass has become somewhat of a pilgrimage point for me - a kind of qiblah whilst I'm exiled in London! |

Modern life takes it's toll on family relationships. Alan Nolan and his son, Ian, found themselves distanced from each other following Alan's divorce from his son's mother. For 20 years, they were apart. Ian lived in Italy and Alan in the UK. We were separated by a physical as well as an emotional distance, recalls Alan, who was determined to reignite the bond with his son. |
