Wainwright ClipNow Thwaites has unveiled a bottled version of the drink and has already received its first national listing with Waitrose – and as part of the launch has commissioned Wainwright flags for people to raise along the walks that he made famous.

Thwaites is encouraging walkers to take their own Wainwright flags on the routes around the Lakeland Fells or any part of the Coast to Coast walk designed by Wainwright. To get one of the limited edition flags simply click on the thwaites.co.uk website.

The walkers will then be asked to send in a picture of themselves with the Wainwright flag being held proudly on one of the routes, along with details of the area the picture was taken.

We have been inundated with requests from people wanting to find out whether Wainwright would be produced as a bottled beer and when it might be launched.

They will be added to a new Thwaites Wainwright gallery of walks, and the best 10 pictures received will be sent a complimentary case of the new bottles and a limited edition Wainwright book.  Inspired by the challenge laid down, Thwaites sent father and son, Martin and Paul Shearer, who both work for the brewery, up Helvellyn for the inaugural picture.  Thwaites marketing manager, Lee Williams commented, "It was great to see the pictures they brought back. Wainwright has been a fantastic addition to our portfolio and has been massively popular in pubs and bars with drinkers across the country."

"There has been big interest in the launch and we are already talking to some major national chains about the next step for the brand – we really believe it can become a big flagship ale for us as it's lightly hopped, refreshing taste is just what people are looking to drink".

To get your Wainwright flag then please e-mail Thwaites adding Wainwright Flag - OFC in the subject line and sending off your name and address.  To access the e-mail address visit the Thwaites Fly The Flag website.

Jayne Harman from Thwaites was very impressed by the OFC website and was interested whether we would like to organise a walk in the near future.  We might get a crate of Wainwright to quench our thirst at the end!  As a proposal, we could combine a walk with a visit to Kapellan as part of a weekend of Wainwright celebration.  Please express your interest by e-mailing Peter Burgess via the submission form at the base of this page.

BOOK REVIEW - A Lifetime of Mountains
Read more...As a child I remembered many famous mountaineering figures apart from the obvious character of AW more renowned for his walking exploits.  However, other names featured in my perceptions of the high places.  Some of them like Tom Weir featured on television, others like W. H. Murray, entertained me from the cover of a book, whilst to many the man in this article spoke to us all from the regular feature in The Manchester Guardian newspaper.  A. Harry Griffin wrote an amazing Country Diary for nigh on fifty three years.  In this time he took many on an amazing journey outside, what was for many, their urban homes.

BOOK REVIEW - Outside Broadcaster, An Autobiography
Read more...Eric Robson was born in Southern Scotland and has lived for most of his life in Cumbria.  For the latter part of his life he has owned a small farm near Wasdale and is most famous for his role as chairman of Gardeners' Question Time on BBC Radio 4. Over the last five years he has also chaired the Wainwright Society.  This book examines his own life with quite amusing anecdotes of his experiences as a freelance broadcaster and documentary maker.
